Moonlight Ride

Last Saturday after coming back from a session with the cutest 6 month old (more to come from this later) I was driving down Monument Avenue on my way to drop off my friend Beth.  Beth lives off Monument so when I was going to drop her off, I saw signs stating that the street would be closed off for the Moonlight Ride.

The Moonlight Ride is a bike race starting at 8pm that goes through certain areas of Richmond, specifically up Monument Avenue.  Because the race goes from 8pm until midnight, everyone decorates their bikes with glow sticks, lights and vibrant colors. I didn’t have plans for Saturday night so I called up my friend Katie and we decided to pack some food and blankets and sit in the median of Monument Avenue and watch the bikes ride by.  So we packed up a cooler of food, grabbed our tripods and cameras (Katie has a Nikon as well), asked Beth to join us and headed out for a night amongst the lights.

It was so cool and definitely worth the few bug bites we got 🙂  Here are some of my favorite images from the night.

We used Beth to test our lighting.

Do you know how hard it is to stay still for 13 seconds?

Playing with our phone flashlights and long exposures.
