This past weekend was back to back packed with photography fun. I started off the weekend on Thursday evening by meeting up with my friend Katie to explore Pony Pastures and take new head shots. I’ve been wanting to update my “About Me” page and to update my website so I asked Katie if she’d be down to go explore and exchange the favor. Katie just started her own photography business back in the spring Kate Driskell Photography (check out her blog here!) and it’s been nice to have a friend just starting out to get together to practice or just talk about techniques etc.
So after she got off work she met me at my house and we were off to explore. Originally we were going to go to this little park off Three Chopt, right next to the Jimmy Johns (where Three Chopt meets Patterson) (I wish I knew the name of this park but I just don’t, someone help a sistah out and comment below) but, there was no parking available (bummer!). I was kind of surprised because it seemed like a neat little spot but there were only three spots (oh well, next time). So we then headed to go to a Belle Isle, a great spot and a safe choice because we’ve both been there many times and shot there before. I knew Belle Isle would be beautiful but I kind of wanted to see something new. Well on our way to Belle Isle I remembered that Katie had already been to Pony Pastures and we were kind of going in that direction. It was perfect because I wanted to explore and she was eager to show me how cool it was.
The best part about practicing with a friend who also has a camera is that they are willing to try things because they know what it’s like on your end of the camera. We both got a chance to practice modeling, directing and shooting. I’m not going to lie, I felt super self conscious in front of the camera but that’s good because it helped me understand what clients probably feel and how to help them. Katie did a great job of this and was great at directing me with what to do. We got some great shots in a lot of different locations and I love these images, one because Katie is gorgeous and was a great model but also because holy moly the light was perfect!!
Pony Pastures, is my new favorite spot for sessions by the way. Seriously it has everything, wooded areas, rocks, the river, beautiful back drops and most importantly, the light was perfect! Glowy and coming in at just the right angle. I can’t wait to go back in the fall when the trees on the opposite side of the river start to hibernate for the winter and turn those beautiful fall colors! 🙂
