Months ago I mentioned to my friend Beth that I wanted to go to a big sunflower field and pick sunflowers. Sunflowers are my favorite and I really wanted to get pictures of fields filled with sunflowers. I looked up “Sunflower Farms in Virginia” and as it turns out there is only one, Burnside Farms. It’s actually really close to my Big’s house and we thought about going there for her September session that is taking place in a few weekends. Unfortunately the last weekend for Sunflower Picking was the 30th of August so it wouldn’t fit in for our session. I still really wanted to go though so on Saturday night I texted Beth to see if she’d want to go up there on the last day of their season and when she said yes we set a plan. I picked up Beth early, we got Chick Fila (yum) and were off to Haymarket for a few hours of picking flowers.
Burnside Farms is quaint with fields of Sunflowers and Gladiolus and a little shop that sells mason jars, vases, and other treats. Each season they offer something a little different and if anyone wants to go up in the spring for their tulip picking I am in! If you go up there to visit, just make sure you bring some large cups or vases to put water in. Luckily I had some larger tervis tumblers in the car so the flowers wouldn’t wilt or die on the way back to Richmond.
This day adventure was the best way to relax before school started and added some color to my living room. I’ve got a few more little day adventures coming up soon that I’m really excited about especially as we head into my favorite season!
