Rafferty Family Portrait Session

When we were debating whether to make the move up to Baltimore, one of the points on the pro/con list that came up with that this business had started in Richmond and had a large client base there. Ultimately when we decided to take a chance and move, I have to admit that I was nervous about the future of this business. I didn’t know if I’d be able to get clients in Baltimore or even if anyone up here would be interested. And then we announced we were moving and I was blown away with gratitude when Krystal contacted me almost immediately.
Krystal and I were sorority sisters at JMU but hadn’t been in touch for a few years since we had graduated. It was such a wonderful surprise to find that she had been following along in my photography journey! Not only that but she wanted to schedule portrait sessions for her family! She told me she was pregnant with her third baby and wanted to ensure she could get photographs of their family in this precious stage in life. It was a great feeling, my first session in Maryland was going to be with an old friend who I already knew and felt comfortable with!
Krystal and her family live in Frederick Maryland which is just outside of Baltimore. We scheduled a morning session and got up early to meet. I don’t usually do morning sessions but I have to say that every time I do I fall more and more in love with the light. The light is always glowy and “dewey” (if that’s a word). There is a soft brightness that makes images just feel warm and I have to say, I can’t get enough.
We met up at her house, loaded her sweet littles in a buggy and were off to a nearby neighborhood park. Their neighborhood is idyllic with calm and wide roads leading around a quiet set of houses and revealing a park nestled right in the middle. The park has walking trails all around it with wide open spaces, a playground, fields with goal posts and beautifully matured trees lining the edges. It was the perfect spot! The way the sun set into the field provided gorgeous light and made the colors just pop!
Her kiddos are precious!! We ran around, pulled their buggy through the field, and started to get to know each other. The best part about the Milestone Package with families is that by the second and third session we’re all so comfortable with each other that the sessions can’t help but get better and better! I loved our first session together and I can’t wait to see this family again soon!! In the meantime, enjoy some of my favorites from our family session together in the fall.
