My girl Maggie is one of my FAVORITES to photograph because she is SO down to earth and I love it (in my sing-song praise voice)!  Her family is so cute and southern but more importantly, she and Rob are also just so sweet!! They make me want to hustle my booty back down to Richmond so we can all be best friends that casually drink wine and hang out!  Plus I think Rob and Sterling would just love each other as good ole southern boys.

I first met Maggie a few years ago when I went to her house to take her first born baby, Cabell’s, newborn images.  Fash forward a few months and I ran into her at Jack Browns (a burger joint in Richmond) and she immediately lets me know she wants to get on my calendar for Mommy and Me’s!  Now it’s over a year and a half and we’re meeting up again for her newest addition, Raleigh Jane’s newborn session. 

When I came to their house for this newborn session I couldn’t believe I forgot about their bedroom which is where we took images last time and is the most IDEAL backdrop for images.  Yall their bedroom is 100% white and it makes my natural light photographer heart skip a beat!  Any space with white walls or a white backdrop is instantly brighter and this space makes her images so clean and natural looking – I am in LOVE!  I would JUMP at the chance to shoot in a location like this always!  It makes colors pop, details stand out and the focus is truly on the family instead of distractions from the background.  I could go on and on and on – you’ll see for yourself below.

While I could gush on and on about her perfectly lit bedroom I really need to gush on about the people from this session that are what truly make it stand out.  Maggie’s parents joined us for their session to help with Cabell in the background and they were so wonderful!  Maggie’s dad helped me carry everything from my car no problem, and her mom even insisted that I boss them around (which I’d never do but definitely appreciate the sentiment).  They took Cabell for his own special play time when it was just Raleigh Jane’s moment and then helped behind the camera to keep Cabell laughing.  They were a godsend and I am so grateful they were there, thank you both!

Cabell being just around 1 and a half didn’t 100% understand but I could tell he was really curious.  He loved getting to see my camera and really wanted to be involved and by his Momma’s side.  He would come up to Maggie while we were getting Raleigh Jane settled and he’d say “Hi Momma, hi baby!”  MELT MY HEART!  He calls his sister RAH JAY!  So funny – I wish I had heard it for myself!  He’s so curious about his new baby sister and while he hasn’t learned how to gently handle her yet – he definitely wants to love on her.

By far my favorite moment of the whole morning was at the very end when we were taking some standing images of just Maggie, Rob and Raleigh Jane.  Maggie is snuggled up to Rob and I just hear her go “We have two” in this quiet and gracious way that just made me melt.  Newborn sessions are always sweet and this moment totally sums up everything I love about newborns.  It’s these quiet little moments of being totally in awe of this miracle and how blessed they feel that seriously fills the room with love.  There are no props or centerpieces to steal the show just pure love and awe at how gorgeous life is.

Maggie and Rob – I just love you guys and am so excited for you both and your family of four!  Yall are so sweet for including me on your journey with you and I’m so excited to see Raleigh Jane and Cabell grow up!  🙂
