Wanna know my favorite way to end a session? Definitely, hands down, getting to play with or chat with the kids. So when Maggie and Cooper asked me if I was going to walk around Crump park with them and see the animals I genuinely jumped for joy and said YES! And then I just about died and went to heaven when little miss Maggie reached out and held my hand the entire time we walked around looking at the piggies! Read More »
My girl Maggie is one of my FAVORITES to photograph because she is SO down to earth and I love it (in my sing-song praise voice)! Her family is so cute and southern but more importantly, she and Rob are also just so sweet!! They make me want to hustle my booty back down to Richmond so we can all be best friends that casually drink wine and hang out! Plus I think Rob and Sterling would just love each other as good ole southern boys.
I first met Maggie a few years ago when I went to her house to take her first born baby, Cabell’s, newborn images. Fash forward a few months and I ran into her at Jack Browns (a burger joint in Richmond) and she immediately lets me know she wants to get on my calendar for Mommy and Me’s! Now it’s over a year and a half and we’re meeting up again for her newest addition, Raleigh Jane’s newborn session. Read More »
What I love almost as much as Christina and her sweet family is the colors from this session! What you can’t tell is that we are literally in a parking lot of the park but the trees in this small patch between lots had the most beautiful fall colors. Christina came to the session in this deep blue dress that looked stunning on her. Her little girl Florence was all dolled up in a velvet pink dress but the accent of her flower headband made her curls pop off the background. Some of my favorite images from this session are definitely those of Florence and her Dad. Tommy knows just the way to make Florence laugh and these two giggling together is everything I’d want from a picture of my (one-day future) children and Sterling. They are so precious! The colors are beautiful in these but more so you can feel how much these three (now four!) love each other!Read More »
Let me introduce you to my new best friend – Trello! Trello is a task management tool that you can use individually or with groups. I’m currently LOVING it for helping students with group goals and to do lists and for managing my own personal goals and running to-do lists. I even have a Trello board to manage my workflow for photography sessions. It can really be used for anybody not just students, Sterling and I are both using it for our personal house chores as well as our professional tasks. Let me explain more about how this works. I love doing newborns with a family for a second (or third… or fourth + ) time! It’s awesome because they already know what to expect, the poses, the timeline, the helpful tips to keep the baby sleepy. It’s a dream scenario and one of the reasons I love working with families because I get to see them time after time. Read More »
All I have to say about this session is that Sterling better WATCH OUT! I’ve got myself a new boyfriend and while he may be merely 3, he is quite the gentleman!
This session was the third milestone session with the Harrigan family and it was especially exciting because I got to meet their newest little hunk – Ridley. 🙂 Our previous two milestones were when Roland (Ro) was much younger and while he was precious then he is quite the charmer now. I can only imagine what this duo will be like when Ridley can talk too!Read More »
Teacher Tuesday is BACK! The last time I posted one of these blog posts was in 2015 and I posted about my homemade grade book! Being a teacher is a HUGE part of who I am and I LOVE sharing about it, I’m honestly not sure why I stopped doing these posts. What I’ve reflected on recently is that this place should be a space where I can share about beautiful sessions with families but also a place where I can share about my passions inside and outside of photography. I’ve realized that I’d like to start treating this space as a legacy that I can look back on years from now as a glimpse of what my life was like back in the day. Originally that was what this blog was for – a place where I could share about my adventures around Richmond with others. So it’s time to get back to my roots and share the whole story, me in all aspects of my life. I’m bringing back TEACHER TUESDAY! Q: S Club 7 song: Bring it all back! Read More »
Sometimes I get so wrapped up in moving forward and the numbers game, comparing myself to this person or that person that I forget about what it felt like to be a dreamer.
Back when I started this journey I never intended to have people pay me to take their pictures. I was a young girl in a new town with very few friends and no family nearby. My college friends were scattered about, my family was in Baltimore, my boyfriend Sterling was down in Mississippi and I felt scared, sad and alone; with the notable exception of my friend Leslie and our Monday Margarita dinners at Nacho Mamas. But I had a camera. A new shiny DSLR camera (one of the big ones that can change lenses!)Read More »
Pike Newborn Session
— Baltimore, Maryland —
Can you believe I’ve known Peyton since we were TEENAGERS!? Yes! She was 14 and I was 12 when I first started going to Camp Mont Shenandoah and she became not only a friend to me but in a lot of ways a mentor. As a camper, I looked up to her as a legacy camper, a Green team cheerleader and then the Captain! When I joined her as a counselor she helped show me the ropes and always made sure I was included. She took me along with her on days off, showed me how to be a mentor to younger campers and even sat outside a bathroom stall of Junior Four (a bathroom at camp) when I was in tears because I was so afraid of going to college. When we moved back to Baltimore this summer she was one of the first to reach out and invite us over to hang out and have dinner. She is a great friend. Read More »
