Maddie is turning TWO in September and it doesn’t feel that long ago that I took her newborn pictures!! (see post here) In her newborn session she slept the entire time and let me tell you, she has definitely livened up! 🙂
Maddie girl is a curly top beauty who is active, curious and independent. We got to Libby Hill Park and Maddie was instantly on the go! She wanted to see everything and more than anything wanted to run. She was fearless as she took off down the concrete hill – this girl will be a force as she grows up and I mean this in the best possible way! I can see her growing up to be a leader who charges forward and an energy people want to be friends with. She perfectly embodies one of my FAVORITE quotes “and though she be but little, she is fierce” – Shakespeare (A Midsummer’s Night Dream).Read More »
This might be my favorite session to date. It’s true, I said it. It was a mix of everything going just right in the most important ways. The session was during golden hour, in a beautiful location, we took into account where the sun was setting so the light was ideal, and most importantly, we were SO comfortable with each other! I should add that the reason why we are so comfortable together is because we are good friends from JMU! Drew and Sterling (my husband) are fraternity brothers from JMU and Stacy and me are sorority sisters from JMU. Since we are good friends from college, coming together for this session was so sweet and easy! Additionally, Stacy’s mom and dad came along which was so nice to have extra helpers to watch our bags and be the smile task force. They were so sweet to come and help and such a Godsend! Read More »
Nothing gets me more jazzed than talking about my days at summer camp Camp Mont Shenandoah! Singing the songs, reminiscing about old memories and traditions, and wishing for Sunday’s lunch with the BEST fried chicken you’ll ever have. So when Priscilla, one of my counselors from camp, told me that her son Wyatt knew the camp songs and LOVED them – you better believe we started singing them.
We were at Libby Hill Park for our mini session sing/screaming about a girl who is silly enough to trust a crocodile and float him down the Nile river. The best part besides the fact that Wyatt knew the words was that in the part when we sang “Well the croc winked his eye as she waved them all goodbye, wearing a HAPPY SMILE!” Wyatt just BEAMED with this huge smile and CLICK, we got the picture. 🙂 Most of the time taking pictures of little ones that can wiggle and move and RUN becomes a game of how can we distract you long enough to set up the shot and then make it a game to get you to smile so that I can CLICK, get the picture. Well, this trick worked and it gave me so much joy singing camp songs in the middle of the day! Win – Win. Read More »
Three generations of women met for this portrait session. A baby blessed to a woman who will cherish her every day of her life. A baby who was prayed for when she was just an idea and now her sweet sunshine is here and the joy she gives to others is palpable. Read More »
It’s crazy to think that the last time I saw the Brown family they were welcoming home Elizabeth as a brand new baby! You may remember that session and her gorgeous floral bow! Not to mention Joseph’s camera take over and the cuteness that instilled! This is something I especially love about the milestone package, I get to watch families grow over a year. I can’t get over how much bigger Elizabeth is and how much older Joseph seems! Not to mention seeing Elizabeth grow from a sleepy little infant to a baby with rolls for DAYS! She is ADORABLE! Joseph becomes more and more active with every session we do and it’s so fun. At one point I turned to Lindsey and had to say “so sorry for all the screeching!” as Joseph and I played stormtroopers and I died valiantly as he shot me first. 🙂
Yall have been asking for it – waiting for it – excited for it, and now it’s HERE! The May Minis SNEAK PEAK!! Each of these sessions will get their own blog post in the upcoming weeks but for now, I wanted to show off just a taste of how GORGEOUS and fun our sessions were this past weekend.Read More »
All I have to say about this session is that Sterling better WATCH OUT! I’ve got myself a new boyfriend and while he may be merely 3, he is quite the gentleman!
This session was the third milestone session with the Harrigan family and it was especially exciting because I got to meet their newest little hunk – Ridley. 🙂 Our previous two milestones were when Roland (Ro) was much younger and while he was precious then he is quite the charmer now. I can only imagine what this duo will be like when Ridley can talk too!Read More »
For some these images may seem like a simple new baby announcement but they are SO much more than that. These pictures represents a journey. A hard, beautiful journey filled with love and hope and one that I’ve gotten to be a part of as a friend and photographer since the very beginning. Amanda was the first person I ever took pictures of “professionally” and has since trusted me with her biggest milestones. I say professionally in quotes because I had never, I repeat, NEVER taken pictures of people before Amanda asked me to shoot her engagement pictures. I sometimes can’t believe she trusted me with this and then later when she called me to do her newborn session, my FIRST newborn session! She saw something in me and pushed me to start something before I even knew to try. From maternity to newborn, to a cake smash to the moment when she called me and told me she was pregnant again after years of waiting. Years of what I can only assume was hope and prayers and deep heartaches and now she is expecting her second baby, a GIRL! Read More »

From mommy and me minis, to 1 year cake smashes, all the way to holiday minis this past fall, I was so blessed this past year! I worked with people who are so creative, kind, funny, warm and let me be my full wacky goofy self. It was the best! Read More »
HOLY shizzz this session was amazing! I got in the car with Brandy and as we pulled out of the driveway she hollered over to Chris her husband about loading up the horses cause we were going to Renee’s. The name sounded familiar but it wasn’t until we started approaching the location that I realized where we were going.
At first I thought Renee’s was a place where Carryn rides, but it wasn’t, it was a gorgeous piece of property of a nearby neighbor, Renee. As we pulled up I realized where we were going, this was the infamous farm. The farm that used to belong to Sterling’s grandmother, where his mother and aunts had lived when they were younger, where Sterling had grown up exploring nature. It’s probably one of his most cherished places and I was seeing it for the very first time.
We pulled up to the property and started looking around. I felt kind of weird actually being there without him, as if I was imposing on his memories and special place. Those feelings quickly faded when we came up a familiar site. A large red barn was right in front of me, beautifully perched up on a hill, the same site that we have framed in our house.
It was neat getting to spend time in a place that is such a huge part of Sterling’s life but that paired with getting to spend time with the Mullins and take these images, made for a perfect night. The Mullins are my kind of people. The first time we took pictures together I needed to get to a higher ground and so climbed up on the shoulders of Chris who didn’t skip a beat. Brandy is a country girl who will do anything for her kids and she has amazing taste. We’d make one hell of a styled shoot duo if I was in the Charlottesville area. For this session, we brought over a trailer with not one but two horses and the whole family joined in to help. At one point I was standing on top of Taylor’s (Carryn’s sister) boyfriend’s car. These people are all in and I LOVE it!
The best part of the whole session was the last few moments in the field with Carryn’s horses. The light got softer, the horses came out and Carryn blossomed. This is her happy place. She is 100% herself when she’s with her horses. She’s confident, carefree, beautiful, soft and strong all at the same time. She SHINES in these images in the field and they are some of my favorites ever.
This horse is BEAUTIFUL! They got him from Chincoteauge!
