Midlothian Mines Park Spring Family Portraits

The Saturday that the Lind family and I met for our session we had perfect weather! Seventy five degrees, sunny, and just a splash of fluffy clouds painting the bright blue sky. This was my first time photographing the Lind family. Courtney and Eric have four kiddos all under 3 (almost 4) years old, two of which are twin girls! When I met up with them they were all so sweetly dressed in blue tones and all the girls matched in blue sear-sucker outfits and blue bows. Y’all know I’m a sucker for a bow so having three girls in matching bows was precious!

Summer Maternity Session in Wide Open Fields of Virginia

I just have to say I LOVE this location and the more I shoot here the more I want to shoot everything here. Wide open fields, wildflowers, and very little foot traffic make this an idyllic location for many. It was a beautiful spot to shoot Lindsey and Eli’s maternity session. We met one summer evening and just missed a downpour. Just missed though doesn’t mean we didn’t totally miss some rain. You’d (hopefully) never notice that I individually edited out raindrops from her dress in Photoshop which may have been time-consuming but so worth it for the final product.

Brannock Party of 5! Manassas Battlefield Spring Family Session

You may remember seeing this family before on my blog, the first time being in 2015 when it was just baby Lucas! Wow has my editing style improved since then! Jacquelyn is my big from our sorority and so we’ve known each other for a long time and had a lot of goofy times together, a lot of which involved Chanello’s pizza 🙂 Well now she is a momma to not just one sweet boy like in 2015 but three! These blonde cuties are sweet like Jac and goofs like their dad Quest! We always end each session with the boys picking a pose for their own goofy solo portrait. These have ranged from big-shot baseball players, to Captain America, to cowboys, etc. Always so fun and I love that they love this little tradition. 🙂

Spring Family Session at Manassas Battlefield with the Brannock Family of Four

Getting to see Catherine and Kyle for their family session was a real treat. Who would have thought that it would be in the 90s in Virginia at the end of April!?! Regardless of the heat, they were real troopers and were amazing to work with. They came prepared to Manassas Battlefield with their own cooler of snacks, and water to keep the girls happy and cool. They also were willing to take breaks and go slow to get the best shots. Boy did it pay off!

The Lowery’s Newest Newborn – Richmond Virginia In-Home Newborn Session

How can it be that it was two years ago that I was sharing the Lowery family’s first newborn session? I’ll never forget meeting them for the fist time in Baltimore at a coffee shop downtown to get to know each other. They were in town visiting Emily’s sister and so it worked out perfectly for us to meet in person before she gave birth to Nora. We grabbed coffee and walked around with their goldendoodle Winston and I knew they were great! I mean I have a goldendoodle Winnie and they have a Winston!? That plus they are the nicest people ever! Their newborn session with Nora was bliss and the images were gorgeous. It was also such an easy going session and I felt so at ease around Chris and Emily!

Crafts & Kitchen – Valentines Day Sugar Cookies

Alexandra Michelle Photography - 2019 - Self Portraits - Baltimore Maryland - Valentines Day Baking-8I’m trying something new at work and it all started this past month.  Aside from photography, I’m mainly an Instructional Coach for teachers at a school.  Many people have no idea what this means and the long and the short of it is that I help teachers plan lessons and projects that are more student-centered and promote engagement!  Recently I had been feeling lonely at my desk with not many projects on the horizon.  So I decided why wait for people to come to me when I could go to them! And thus POP – UP PD (professional development) was formed.Read More »

Our Best Moments from 2018

Woo lawzy it has been a hot second since I’ve posted here.  2018 was a serious whirlwind and life is finally starting to slow down (thank goodness!).  During December I let myself relax over the holidays so I could totally process the year and prepare for 2019 in mind and spirit.  I’ll tell you honestly, as great as it was to step back for a bit there was a big part of me that felt guilty like I was falling behind.  Even though part of me was distracted by this feeling of neglecting things I wanted to get done, 90% of me was able to have really intentional reflection about 2018.  Good LORD was this needed and here’s why.  Read More »

Richmond Newborn – Rennolds Family

My first real memory of Leslie was initiation night my first year at camp, circa 2000.  She was a JC (Junior Counselor) and this year’s JC group decided to dress up as crazed electricians.  Or something to this affect.  You see, at camp every summer we initiate our first year campers will a scary (and often times silly) story, a walk around camp and a fun introduction to the rest of camp.  Leslie’s group being the “crazed” electricians were dressed up in jeans, plaid, hats and drawn on fake beards (if memory serves me right).  I was 12 as a first year camper and she was 16 and we had no idea we’d be such good friends.

Fast forward 5 years and Leslie is my first co-counselor at camp.  I felt pretty lucky actually because Leslie was the “Mother of the Row” and I was less nervous knowing I’d have help from a pro!  We lived in Pony Express with about 12 nine to ten year olds and boy was it a crazy summer.  Note-ably of course, was the 2 week long guessing game of “who is wetting the bed?”.  Which ended with a surprise twist and cabin sweeps for three cabins.  Truly a memorable summer!  In our time as co-counselors together she taught me how to sweep away homesickness, laugh through the weird moments and of course get 12 crazy nine year olds to bed, which is not always an easy task.  She was a role model that I always looked up to.

Leslie quickly became a very close friend of mine and a person who I can always call on for help.  She is fiercely loyal, a great listener and silly.  Greg is the calm in any storm, easy going and a perfect match for Leslie.  Seeing them become parents has been a real honor.  It is already evident that Greg and Leslie are great parents, they are grounded in love for each other and their new baby.  This family of five (let’s not forget the two pups) is simply lovely!  Congratulations Leslie and Greg!  I’m so happy for you guys!

Newborn Portraits – Sam – Charlottesville

Meet my new nephew!! That’s right this little cutie is my sister in law’s son and so obviously I’m biased in thinking he’s precious!  He is officially a month old now and doing very well!  His sister Cora has adapted so well and is really sweet with him.  She is gentle and kind and even calms him down by saying “It’s okay little buddy, it’s okay.” ::swoon::  Sam meanwhile is an observer, calm and quietly takes it all in.  He has big blue eyes that watch you intently.  It’s going to be great watching these two grow up! Read More »

A Year of Love

I can’t believe that’s it’s already been a year!  One year ago today Sterling asked me to marry him!  It was a year ago that we went to a corn maze and for just a fun Saturday ended up at JMU for a night of reminiscing.  It was a year ago today that we parked and walked around JMU at night while it was lit up so pretty and talked about all the fun we had when we first started our relationship.  It was a year ago today that Sterling ignored an Ole Miss game while we ate dinner (which should have been a give away).  And then at 10pm one year ago today Sterling and I sat down on the quad looking at Wilson Hall and he asked me to marry him.  It was magical.

It has been one crazy year let me tell you.  Not only did we get engaged but we hit a bunch of other fun and new milestones.Read More »
